Burney (1752-1840) was known as a diarist, novelist and letter writer. She achieved fame for her novels Evelina (1778) and Cecilia (1782). .Burney's third novel Burney maintained a friendship with Hester Piozzi and was appointed keeper of the robes to Queen Charlotte. She later married a penniless French Catholic refugee and moved to France to attempt to reacquire the D'Arblay estates.
