"This was the first of a series of three books that the [Grabhorn] Press contracted to do for Random House during the year of 1931. The House of Seven Gables, a companion volume to The Scarlet Letter, was to be the second; and the Life of Cellini in an edition of four hundred copies was to be the third. Because of business conditions, however, only The Red Badge of Courage - because it had progressed too far to be abandoned - was completed."
