[Salem, Ohio: Anti Slavery Bugle, 1845]. 8-7/8 x 5-7/8", when folded. Undated, four page leaflet, pages (33), 34, 35, 36 in continuation of other numbers of this series of tracts.The first two pages contain the Whittier piece, the last two contain Lines by James Russell Lowell, "On Reading of the Capture of Certain Fugitive Slaves Near Washington." Little toned along the edges but a very good copy. The Whittier piece commemorates the action taken by Jonathan Walker who, in 1841, attempted to help his ex-slaves escape to the North. He was captured and branded SS (Slave Stealer) by a US Marshall.
