Cover lilttle worn, foxing her and there throughout, o/w a VG copy. BAL 13238, first issue with the caption on the tissue over the frontispiece 1-7/8 in. wide and the folios present on the divisonal title pages. Paper watermarked "Ruisdael", wove endpapers and publisher's imprint not on the spine. This book was announced for publication by Putnam and 2113 copies were printed. They never issued the book; Houghton, Mifflin acquired the edition, but pulped the remaining 535 copies in 1925. Item #37444

Lowell was sent as American Minister to the Spanish court in 1877. These are some of his dispatches home to the Dept. of State.
