Essayist, reformer, novelist and home economist, Campbell (1839-1918) was the author of the popular Ainslie Series 1868!71; as well as the reformist author of The Problem of the Poor (1882). She lived and worked with Charlotte Perkins Gilman from 1894 to 1912 when they co-edited Impress. In 1897 she lectured at the University of Wisconsin and later was appointed professor of home economics at Kansas State.
