Marie Petersen was the daughter of a city councillor in Frankfurt. She was a sickly child, but did not have an unhappy youth. Her poetical talent shows in the present Irrlichter (Will-o-the-wisp) and also in Prinzessin Ilse. She died June 30, 1859, another of the now-forgotten women writers of the 19th Century.
