The author was unable to finish this MSS before he died. But he had finished the portions on "the Amazonian races and tribes south of the great river, those of the Gran Chacu, as well as the Araucabian, Pampas, and Patagonian Indians. Church was born in Massachusetts, educated as an engineer and was resident Engineer for the building of the Hoosac Tunnel. After this work, he was invited to go to Argentina as a member of a scientific commission to explore the southwestern part of the country and offer a report on the the best defense against the native peoples.
