Gatti de Gamond (1812-1854) wrote this book on Charles Fourier's brand of socialism. French social scientist and reformer, Francois Marie Charles Fourier (1772-1837) advocated a co-operative organization of society in Phalansteries, each one large enough to allow for the industrial and social needs of the group. His theories drew advocates throughout Europe and the US. The transcendentalists attemped one such community at Brook Farm in Mass. Another was established in Texas.
