Second Photo- different pose, but probably taken at the same time, as she is wearing the same dress: with a news note on the verso indicating that Mrs. Ashby was standing for the English Parliament for Richmond and that she had been elected President of the Women's Suffrage League at the annual congress. The daughter of a liberal MP for East Grinstead, Ashby was President of the International Suffrage Alliance from 1923 to 1946. She was involved in suffrage and women's causes her whole life and held a number of organizational offices. See Crawford, The Women's Suffrage Movement, a reference guide 1866-1928, page 18.
