Novelist and poet, Troubetzkoy (1863-1945) was born in Richmond, Virginia. This was her most famous book which sold over 100, 000 copies in three years. Blain notes that her sensual descriptions place her in the "erotic school" that included Gertrude Atherton and Eleanor Wilcox. She was a successful novelist with interests in woman suffrage and educational reform.
