Galina Yevgenyevna Volyanskaya (1911-1963) wrote under the psudonym Galina Nikolayeva. She was an army physician in WWII and won the 1950 Stalin Prize for her first novel. In 1951 she won the State Prize in Literature. The present work tells the story of the Soviet village of Kolkhoz in WWII.
