May French-Sheldon was the first woman to be elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in 1892 because of her work on the previously unexplored Lake Chala. This is an account of a safari led by her in 1891 from Mombasa to the Masai lands beyond Mount Kilimanjaro and back.
